Breast Implants – Low vs High Profile

|

Low-profile breast implants and high-profile implants, although not the only options, are two different options in breast augmentation mammoplasty surgery. They primarily differ in terms of their dimensions, projection, and the resulting breast appearance. Here’s a comparison of the key differences between these two implant profiles:

Base Diameter:

– Low Profile: Low-profile implants have a wider base diameter. This means they have a broader footprint and are flatter when viewed from the side.

– High Profile: High-profile implants have a narrower base diameter. They are more compact at the base and are rounder when viewed from the side.

Projection:

– Low Profile: Low-profile implants have minimal projection, meaning they do not extend as far forward from the chest wall. They provide a subtler, less projecting breast appearance.

– High Profile: High-profile implants offer a significant projection, meaning they project more prominently from the chest wall. This results in a fuller and rounder breast shape with more forward projection.

Conservative vs. Fullness:

– Low Profile: Low-profile implants are often chosen when a more conservative and subtle enlargement is desired. They tend to mimic the breast shape and provide less upper pole fullness.

– High Profile: High-profile implants are selected for those who want a more prominent, fuller, and rounder breast appearance. They are associated with increased upper pole fullness.

Body Type and Frame:

– Low Profile: Low-profile implants are typically more suitable for individuals with a broader chest and a desire for a modest breast augmentation mammoplasty that maintains a conservative look.

– High Profile: High-profile implants are often chosen by individuals with smaller frames or those who wish to achieve a more dramatic breast shape and projection.

Surgical Placement:

– The choice of implant profile can also influence the surgeon’s recommendation for implant placement, either above the muscle, below the muscle or both under and over the muscle (dual-plane).

Surgical goals and results are different for everyone, which means you should thoroughly consider your goals and discuss them with Dr Rastogi before surgery to make sure they’re realistic.
