What is Breast Revision (Revision Breast Augmentation Mammoplasty)?
A breast revision, also known as a revision breast augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgery that addresses concerns or complications after a previous breast augmentation. Although breast implants are designed to last for a long time, they will not last forever, and at some point, will need to be replaced. For this reason, revision surgery can remove old implants and, if the patient desires, replace them with new ones.
There are many reasons why someone may seek a breast revision mammoplasty, and Dr Rastogi endeavours to cater to the needs and desires of each patient, according to their reasons and goals.
Breast revision mammoplasty can achieve many outcomes if the patient is a suitable candidate. The procedure can:
- Remove old implants
- Replace old implants with new ones
- Correct complications resulting from the initial augmentation mammoplasty (such as capsular hardening)
- Allow patients to change the size of their implants due to a change in preference
- Allow patients to remove implants if they are no longer desired
Costs
The cost of a breast revision mammoplasty will be dependent on various factors. This includes the surgeon’s fee, hospital, and anaesthetist fees. It will also include the cost of the required post-operative care, such as the cost of the support garment or any scar care products.

Risks
It is important to be aware that every surgery is associated with risks. When discussing your procedure with your surgeon, you should ensure to discuss two key factors.

- Preparing for your recovery and how that affects your results and risks.
The risks associated with a breast lift mastopexy can include the following:
- Infection
- Bleeding
- Poor scarring
- Implant rupture (if implants are replaced)
- Capsular contracture (if implants are replaced)
- Breast asymmetry
- Swelling and bruising
Recovery
It is important, during recovery, to follow all of the post-operative instructions given by Dr Rastogi. He will guide you through the recovery process and help you minimise the potential risks. You will also be given a thorough recovery timeline, along with the contact details of both Dr Rastogi and your nurse who will be responsible for supporting you in the weeks post-surgery.
Straight after your surgery, you will need to have your support person stay with you overnight and then drive you home. It is important to have the care and support you need, especially in the initial recovery stage.
Additionally, you will need to attend all of your scheduled post-operative appointments, during which we will monitor your progress and address any concerns or questions. Over the course of your recovery, you can gradually increase your physical activity. Patients will not fully recover until about 6 weeks post-op. For this reason, it is important to adhere to the recovery timeline and aftercare guidance given by Dr Rastogi.
